Large tie rod transverse corrugation compensator

The large tie rod transverse corrugation compensator is a special kind of bellows compensator designed to absorb the transverse displacement in the pipeline system, while also withstanding certain axial and angular displacement. This type of compensator is commonly used in steam piping systems of large industrial facilities, such as power plants, chemical plants, and petroleum refineries, to mitigate thermal expansion and contraction effects caused by temperature changes.

The characteristics of the large tie rod transverse corrugation compensator include:

  1. tie rod structure: The compensator contains a tie rod and a spherical washer, and the tie rod can rotate around the spherical washer, so that it can both withstand internal pressure thrust and adapt to lateral displacement.

  2. Corrugated pipe material: Corrugated pipes are usually made of stainless steel materials (such as 316L) that are resistant to high temperatures (operating temperature ≥300℃) of steam pipes.

  3. Material of connector and guide tube: Generally, carbon structural steel such as Q235B is used, and the bellows form an integral structure.

  4. Bellows Manufacturing: It is required that the bellows components are hydraulically formed at one time to ensure that the corrugated wall thickness is greater than 2mm, and there are no defects such as wrinkles, welding slag and depressions, so as to ensure the product quality.

  5. Weld quality: All welds should be strictly inspected to ensure that there are no welding defects such as biting edges, pores, slag inclusions and cracks. If there are defects, they must be thoroughly removed and re-welded. Simple repair welding is not allowed.

  6. Test criteria: After the manufacture of the compensator is completed, a comprehensive appearance inspection is required to confirm that the appearance is neat, the weld seam is flat, and the weld height meets the requirements.

  7. Lateral compensation amount: Large tie rod transverse corrugation compensator can provide a certain range of transverse compensation quantity to meet the transverse displacement demand of pipeline.

  8. Pressure rating: The design pressure level can reach 2.5MPa or higher to meet the requirements of high pressure steam pipeline.

  9. Fatigue life: Usually designed with high fatigue life, such as more than 1000 cycles, to ensure reliability under multiple thermal cycles.

  10. Operating temperature range: Able to withstand operating temperatures up to 420℃, suitable for high temperature steam applications.

The installation and use of the large tie rod transverse corrugated compensator shall be carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturer's guidance and relevant engineering standards to ensure its effectiveness and safety. When designing the pipeline system, the engineer will calculate the transverse displacement, internal pressure thrust and other mechanical parameters to select the appropriate compensator specification and number. Properly installed and maintained large tie rod transverse corrugated compensators are capable of significantly reducing stress levels in piping systems and extending the service life of pipes and associated equipment.
