Thick-walled expansion joint

Thick-walled expansion joints are metal expansion joints with relatively large wall thicknesses that can withstand higher pressures and harsher working conditions. This type of expansion joint is commonly used in high pressure pipeline systems such as petrochemicals, power, nuclear power plants, oil refineries, and other industrial applications where high strength and resistance to high temperatures are required. Thick-walled expansion joints are designed to provide additional strength and durability to cope with extreme pressure and temperature fluctuations.

Features of thick-walled expansion joints:

  1. Enhanced pressure resistance: Thick wall expansion energy savings withstand higher internal and external pressures than standard wall thickness expansion joints, which allows them to operate safely in high pressure environments.

  2. Improved temperature resistance: The thick-walled design helps improve the thermal stability of the expansion joint, enabling it to operate over a wide range of temperatures, from extremely low to high temperature environments.

  3. Increased corrosion resistance: Thick-walled expansion joints tend to be made with high-quality corrosion-resistant materials, such as stainless steel, to enhance their life in corrosive media.

  4. Increased reliability: Thanks to their robust construction, thick-walled expansion joints perform more stable and reliable in the face of vibrations, shocks, and external loads from piping systems.

  5. Long life: The strength and durability of thick-walled expansion joints give them a longer service life, reducing the frequency and cost of replacement and maintenance.

  6. Customization options: Manufacturers usually offer customized services that can design and produce thick-walled expansion joints of different diameters, wall thicknesses, materials, and connection styles according to the specific needs of customers.

Use Scenario:

  • High pressure pipeline system: In high-pressure steam, high-pressure water, or high-pressure gas transmission, thick-walled expansion joints can provide the necessary compensation and sealing while maintaining the integrity of the pipeline.

  • High temperature applications: In high-temperature steam pipes, heating furnaces, boilers, and heat treatment equipment, thick-wall expansion energy savings withstand high temperatures and provide effective thermal compensation.

  • Corrosive environment: Thick-walled expansion joints can reduce the risk of corrosion in pipes that handle acid-base media, sulfur-containing gases, and other corrosive substances.

  • Earthquake and vibration regions: In earthquake-prone areas or environments with strong vibrations, thick-walled expansion joints can provide additional stability and safety.

Design and Manufacture:

The design and manufacture of thick wall expansion joints are subject to strict standards and specifications, such as ASME, EN, ISO, etc., to ensure the quality and safety of products. In the manufacturing process, precision forming techniques and welding processes are usually employed to ensure the geometric accuracy and material properties of the expansion joints.

When selecting and using thick-walled expansion joints, their working conditions, material compatibility, installation requirements, and ease of maintenance should be considered to ensure that the joint performs optimally for a particular application.
