What are the 5 commonly used compensators

In pipeline systems, various types of compensators are often used to compensate for pipeline displacements caused by temperature changes, mechanical vibrations or installation errors. Here are five commonly used compensator types:

  1. Bellows Compensator: This is the most common type and utilizes the elastic deformation of the bellows to absorb the axial, lateral, or angular displacement of the pipe. The bellows compensator can be divided into axial type, transverse type, angular type and compound type.

  2. sleeve compensator: The axial displacement of the pipe is absorbed by the inner sleeve sliding inside the outer sleeve, which is suitable for high temperature and high pressure environments. Sleeve compensators require good sealing material to prevent media leakage.

  3. Rotation Compensator: Allows the pipe to compensate for displacement by rotating, suitable for large displacement amounts, but usually requires cooperation with guide brackets to ensure that the pipe rotates correctly without twisting.

  4. Square compensator(U-shaped or L-shaped bends): It is a more traditional way to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction by bending the pipe itself, but it is not as widely used as other types now because of its large space occupation.

  5. Spherical Compensator: It allows the pipe to displace in three dimensions, which is achieved by the relative rotation between the sphere and the fixed seat, and is suitable for applications where multi-directional displacement compensation is required.

Each compensator has its own specific application scenario and advantages and disadvantages. Selecting the appropriate compensator type needs to be decided according to the specific working conditions of the pipeline system, including factors such as medium type, working temperature, working pressure, displacement amount and direction. When designing a pipeline system, engineers carefully evaluate these factors to ensure that the most suitable compensator type is selected to guarantee safe and efficient operation of the pipeline system.
