The role of the skin

Skins play a variety of roles in different engineering and industrial fields, especially in industries such as non-metallic expansion joints, aviation, construction, automotive and shipbuilding. The following are the main roles of skin in the field of non-metallic expansion joints:

Skin action in non-metallic expansion joints

Among the non-metallic expansion joints, the skin (usually made of silicone cloth, fluorine tape, polytetrafluoroethylene and other materials) is the main flexible element of the expansion joint, which has the following functions:

  • Displacement absorption: The skin is capable of absorbing axial, radial and angular displacements in the piping system due to thermal expansion and contraction, vibration or mechanical displacement.

  • Pressure and Sealing: Withstand the pressure in the flue gas system, maintain the tightness of the flue and prevent leakage.

  • Chemical tolerance: Resistance to chemical corrosion from smoke or external environment.

  • Abrasion resistance: In flue gas flow, the skin needs to have a certain degree of wear resistance to resist the erosion of particulate matter.

  • Noise reduction: The softness of the skin helps to reduce the noise of the plumbing system.

  • Thermal insulation: The skin can be used with insulation materials to provide additional thermal insulation.

  • Adapt to temperature changes: According to different temperature ranges, the skin can choose low temperature, medium temperature and high temperature type materials.

When choosing skin, we can provide parameters such as temperature, medium, pressure, etc., so that our company can recommend the most suitable skin for your products to meet the needs of production.
