Welded non-metallic expansion joint

Welded non-metallic expansion joint is a conventionally designed expansion joint, which combines metal welded structure and non-metallic flexible components, mainly used to absorb the stress caused by thermal expansion and contraction, vibration or displacement of pipeline system, especially for those occasions where flanged connections are not suitable or higher strength and sealing are required. This type of expansion joint is commonly used in high temperature, high pressure or special media environments because it can provide stronger structural stability and durability than conventional flanged expansion joints.

Structural characteristics

The welded non-metallic expansion joint mainly consists of the following parts:

  1. Metal welded end: Typically made of carbon steel, stainless steel or alloy steel, it is connected to the piping system by welding to provide high strength and tightness.

  2. Non-metallic skin: Made of non-metallic materials that are resistant to high temperatures and corrosion, such as aluminum silicate fiber, ceramic fiber, fluororubber or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), for absorbing displacement of pipes.

  3. Thermal insulation: Located on the inside of the skin, it is used to reduce heat conduction and protect non-metallic materials from high temperatures.

  4. Enhancement layer: Such as stainless steel wire mesh, enhance the mechanical strength and stability of the skin.

  5. Sealing material: Make sure there is no leak between the expansion joint and the pipe.

Advantage

  • High strength: Welded connections provide higher mechanical strength than flanged connections and are more suitable for high-pressure environments.

  • High Sealability: Direct welding of the welded end to the pipe enables seamless connection and improves the tightness of the system.

  • Adapt to complex working conditions: The high temperature and corrosion resistance of non-metallic skin makes it suitable for a wide range of media and temperature ranges.

  • Space saving: Relative to flanged connections, welded expansion joints save space and simplify pipe layout when installed.

Application field scene

Welded non-metallic expansion joints are widely used in high temperature and high pressure pipeline systems in chemical industry, electric power, metallurgy, petroleum, natural gas and other industries, such as:

  • High temperature flue gas pipeline: such as boiler outlets of coal-fired power stations and flue gas treatment systems of waste incineration plants.

  • High pressure steam pipeline: Such as the main steam pipeline of nuclear power plants and thermal power plants.

  • Corrosive media transport: Such as acid-base transport pipelines in chemical plants.

  • High vibration force environment: Such as large compressors, pump inlet and outlet pipes to reduce vibration transmission.

Installation & Maintenance The installation of expansion joints requires professional welding techniques and strict construction management to ensure welding quality and proper alignment of the expansion joints. During installation, care should be taken to protect the non-metallic skin from damage and ensure that the weld area is kept away from high temperature sources. In terms of maintenance, the tightness of the expansion joint and the integrity of the skin should be checked regularly, and any potential problems should be detected and dealt with in time.

Welded non-metallic expansion joints combine the strength of metals and the flexibility of non-metals, and are an effective solution to solve the stress problems of complex pipeline systems, especially in industrial applications requiring high strength, high tightness and adaptation to harsh environments.
