Compensator Types and Pictures

Compensator is an important component in pipeline system for absorbing pipeline displacement caused by thermal expansion and contraction, vibration or installation error. Compensators can be divided into many types depending on their structure and working principle. Some common compensator types and their brief descriptions are listed below, and while I can't show pictures directly, I can provide text captions to help you understand how they look and characterize:

  1. Bellows Compensator

  • Axial type: The bellows expands and contracts along the axis to absorb axial displacement.

  • Lateral Type: Bellows bend to absorb lateral displacement.

  • Angular Type: The bellows rotates in a plane and absorbs angular displacement.

  • Composite type: combines the above types to absorb multi-directional displacement.

  • sleeve compensator

    • The inner and outer sleeves slide on each other to absorb axial displacement, usually with a sealing device.

  • Rotary compensator

    • Using the force couple principle, the axial displacement is absorbed by rotational motion without additional thrust.

  • Square compensator (U or L elbow)

    • Using the curved shape of the pipe itself, the displacement is absorbed by bending deformation during thermal expansion and contraction.

  • Spherical Compensator

    • The displacement of the pipe in three-dimensional space is absorbed by the relative rotation between the sphere and the fixed seat.

  • directly buried compensator

    • Specially designed for use in direct buried pipes to withstand soil pressure and groundwater corrosion.

  • Rod corrugation compensator

    • The lateral displacement of the bellows is limited by a tie rod system, which is mainly used for axial compensation.

  • Non-metallic compensator

    • Using non-metallic materials (e.g. rubber, fiber fabric, etc.), suitable for gas piping, absorbing vibration and slight displacement.

  • Pressure balance compensator

    • Designed to balance internal and external pressure differences, suitable for high pressure piping systems.

  • hinged compensator

    • Contains a hinge mechanism for absorbing angular displacement in a single plane.

Each compensator is designed for specific application needs, such as operating temperature, pressure, media type, and displacement direction, among others. In practical engineering, it is important to choose the correct type of compensator to ensure the safe operation and long-term reliability of the pipeline system.
