Nonmetallic Expansion Joint Execution Standard

A series of standards implemented by non-metallic expansion joints mainly include design, manufacture, inspection and use. Here are a few of the main non-metallic expansion joint standards:

  1. JB/T 12235-2015

  • This is the machinery industry standard in China, specifically for non-metallic expansion joints. It covers terms and definitions, product classification and marking, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation and storage.

  • ASTM F1123

    • ASTM F1123 is a standard specification for non-metallic expansion joints developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The standard includes detailed requirements for design, manufacture, inspection and testing. Although the version of ASTM F1123 is regularly updated, the most recent version is ASTM F1123-87 (2019), which covers the performance and test methods for non-metallic expansion joints.

  • American Fluid Sealing Association (FSA) Standard

    • The FSA standard provides the framework and key provisions of non-metallic expansion joints, expounds the current situation of non-metallic expansion joints in China, and discusses the applicability and reference significance of the standard.

  • Standard for non-metallic expansion joints in high temperature flue

    • For non-metallic expansion joints for high temperature flue applications, there are specific implementation standards in addition to the above standards. For example, high-temperature flue non-metallic expansion joints should be hot joined rather than overlapped, and the adhesive should be eco-friendly special building adhesive. In addition, there will be additional requirements for structure, materials and special design.

  • Production standard for non-metallic expansion joints for desulfurization

    • With reference to the Typical Design Manual of Smoke Wind Pulverized Coal Pipeline Parts and JB/T 12235-2015 standard for non-metallic expansion joints, specific materials and processes are adopted for production to meet the special needs in desulfurization environment.

When using non-metallic expansion joints, it is important to adhere to the relevant industry-specific standards as they provide guidelines for ensuring product safety and reliability. These standards may be updated as technology advances and safety requirements change, so users should always refer to the latest version of the standard. During the design and installation process, special properties of non-metallic expansion joints, such as temperature range, corrosion resistance, tightness, and service life, need to be considered as well.
