How to adjust the screw of expansion joint of large tie rod

Large tie rod expansion joint (also known as large tie rod corrugated compensator), is an expansion joint used in large piping systems to absorb thermal expansion and contraction. It is usually equipped with larger tie rods to limit the displacement of the expansion joint to ensure the safety and stability of the piping system. Adjusting the screws (or bolts) for the expansion joint of the large tie rod is typically done as follows:

PREPARATION STAGE

  1. See instructions: First of all, the expansion joint installation and operation manual should be read and understood carefully, as different manufacturers' products may have different adjustment requirements and precautions.

  2. Inspect the piping system: Ensure that the fixed brackets and guide brackets in the pipe system are properly installed and can support the displacement of the pipe and expansion joints under the design conditions.

Adjustment steps

  1. Initial settings: Before installing the expansion joint, adjust the tie rod screw to the initial set position according to the manufacturer's instructions. This is usually to protect the expansion joint from damage during transportation and installation.

  2. Positioning expansion joint: Place the expansion joint in a predetermined position in the pipe system and ensure that the expansion joint is aligned with the pipe and the bellows is free from torsional or bending stresses.

  3. adjustment screw

  • If tie rod screws are used for transport protection, after the piping system has been installed, the screws should be adjusted again according to temperature and system conditions, allowing the expansion joint to move freely within the designed displacement range.

  • If the tie rod screw plays a limiting role in operation, adjust the screw so that the displacement of the expansion joint does not exceed the designed safety range. This may mean that the tension of the screw needs to be adjusted according to the ambient temperature and the expected temperature change.

  • Record Adjustment Parameters: During the adjustment process, the initial position of the screw and the final adjustment position are recorded, which is useful for future maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Complete adjustment

    Final Check: After completing the adjustment, perform a comprehensive inspection to ensure that all screws are properly tightened and that the expansion joint is in safe working condition.

    Maintenance

    Check periodically: The tightness of the screws should be checked periodically throughout the life of the expansion joint, especially after the system has experienced extreme temperature changes or abnormal operating conditions.
