Function of welded non-metallic expansion joint

Welded non-metallic expansion joint, as an important part of pipeline system, is mainly used to absorb or compensate the displacement caused by thermal expansion and contraction, mechanical motion or installation error. Such expansion joints are usually made of non-metallic materials, such as rubber, fibrous fabric, fluoroplastics, etc., which can provide good flexibility and corrosion resistance.

The main functions of welded non-metallic expansion joints include:

  1. Axial, angular and lateral displacement compensation

  • They can compensate for axial elongation or shortening of the pipe, as well as angular and lateral offsets, which are critical to prevent stress concentration in the pipe system.

  • Sealability

    • Non-metallic materials can provide good sealing effect, prevent fluid leakage and ensure safe operation of the system.

  • compression resistance

    • Ability to withstand pressure inside the pipe, maintaining structural integrity.

  • Shock resistance and vibration damping

    • Can absorb shocks and vibrations in the piping system, reducing damage to pipes and connecting equipment.

  • Noise reduction

    • Non-metallic materials have good sound insulation properties, which can reduce noise levels during operation of piping systems.

  • Extending pipe life

    • By effectively managing the thermal expansion, contraction and mechanical displacement of pipes, fatigue and damage of pipes are reduced, thus extending the service life of the entire system.

The welded non-metallic expansion joint ensures its stability and reliability in high pressure and high temperature environments by securing the non-metallic part with a metal flange or directly with the pipe. During the welding process, special attention needs to be paid to the welding process to ensure that the welding quality and non-metallic materials are not impaired, which usually involves specific welding parameter settings, such as appropriate current strength and electrode angle, to avoid adverse effects on non-metallic components.
