FAQ

How does the steel industry choose the right compensator?

Choosing the right compensator is crucial for the piping system of a steel plant, as this directly affects the safety and efficiency of the system. Here are some key factors to consider when choosing the right compensator:

    1. Operating conditions of the pipeline

  • Temperature: The material is selected according to the maximum and minimum operating temperature of the medium, ensuring that the expansion joint can work properly under these conditions.

  • pressure: Know the maximum working pressure inside the pipe and select a compensator that can withstand that pressure.

  • Medium: Determine the type of media flowing through the pipe (e.g. water, steam, gas, corrosive liquid, etc.) and select the material with the corresponding chemical resistance.

    2. Compensation quantity demand

  • Calculate the amount of thermal displacement to be compensated based on the pipe layout, including axial, lateral and angular displacements, and then select the compensator that can meet these requirements.

    3. Material selection

  • Temperature resistance: Different materials have different temperature resistance ranges, for example, S304 and S316 are suitable for medium and low temperature environments, while S321 is suitable for high temperature environments.

  • Corrosion resistance: If the medium is corrosive, use a corrosion-resistant material, such as S316, 2520.

  • Fatigue life: Considering the number of fatigue times of the compensator under the action of stress, a suitable wave number is selected to reduce the deformation stress.

    4. Installation space

  • Considering the space limitation of the location of the compensator installation, select the appropriate size and type of compensator, such as single, duplex, or hinged type, etc.

5. Economy and Reliability

  • On the premise of meeting technical requirements, choose products with high cost performance and evaluate the after-sales service and technical support provided by suppliers.

    6. Regulations and Standards

  • Follow relevant national standards and industry norms, such as General Technical Conditions for Expansion Joints of Metal Bellows GB/T 12777-2019, Technical Specifications for Selection, Installation, Use and Maintenance of Expansion Joints of Metal Bellows GBT +35979-2018, etc.

    7. Special requirements

  • If there are special working conditions, such as shock prevention, fire prevention, etc., it is also necessary to consider whether the compensator has corresponding special performance.

Selecting a compensator is a process of comprehensive consideration, involving the understanding of the specific application environment and the accurate matching of various parameters. It is recommended to communicate with a professional engineer or manufacturer for detailed guidance and support before choosing. At the same time, it also needs regular inspection and maintenance after installation to ensure the long-term stable operation of the compensator.
