Square Compensator Structure Diagram

A square compensator, also known as an omega or gate compensator, is a compensating device that takes advantage of the bending of the pipe itself to absorb thermal expansion and contraction. Such compensators typically consist of 90-degree elbows that form one or more Ω shapes as a way to allow the pipe to expand and contract freely when heated or cooled without excessive stress.

Here is a basic square compensator structure description:

  1. Straight pipe section: This is the straight pipe at each end of the compensator, usually secured to the bracket, limiting the movement of the pipe outside the compensator.

  2. Bending section: A curved portion consisting of a 90-degree elbow, forming an omega-shaped structure. The number of bending sections can be determined according to the amount of compensation required. One bending section constitutes a simple ω-shaped compensator, while multiple continuous bending sections can form more complex structures and provide greater compensation capacity.

  3. Fixed bracket: Brackets located at both ends of the compensator to hold the pipe in place and prevent it from displacing outside of the compensator.

  4. guide bracket: Between the bending sections of the compensator, guide brackets ensure that the pipe expands and contracts in a predetermined direction, avoiding lateral offset.

  5. Pre-stretch: During installation, the compensator may be pre-stretched a certain distance, usually half the total amount of compensation, to reduce the thrust on the fixed bracket during thermal expansion.

The layout of the actual square compensator in a pipe system can be more complex depending on the direction of the pipe and the amount of compensation required. The design and installation of square compensators shall be carried out by professionals to ensure compliance with all safety and engineering standards.
