Pipe expansion joint tie rod requirements

The pipeline expansion joint tie rod is an important part used to control the displacement of the expansion joint and ensure the normal operation of the pipeline system. The tie rod can effectively limit the displacement of the expansion joint and make it work within the range allowed by the design, thus guaranteeing the safety and stability of the pipeline system.

Requirements for tie rods:

  1. Design and Material Selection

  • The design of the tie rod shall meet the requirements of the working conditions of the pipeline system, including temperature, pressure, displacement, etc.

  • Materials should be chosen taking into account the nature of the media to ensure adequate corrosion resistance and strength.

  • Installation and Adjustment

    • The tie rod should be properly installed to ensure expansion energy saving free expansion and contraction without restriction.

    • The tie rod should be in a pre-tensioned state during installation to avoid excessive displacement of the expansion joint during operation.

    • The length and position of the tie rod should be adjustable to accommodate different displacement amounts.

  • Limiting and guiding

    • Tie rods are typically used in pairs to provide bi-directional limits, ensuring that the expansion joint moves along the axis.

    • For laterally displaced expansion joints, it may be necessary to use a specially designed tie rod system to limit unintended displacements.

  • Maintenance and Inspection

    • Check the condition of the tie rod regularly, including rust, wear, etc.

    • Make sure the fasteners at the tie rod connection are not loose.

  • Operating Procedures

    • During system start-up or shutdown, adjust the tie rod according to the manufacturer's operating guidelines.

    • Properly handle the position and tension of the tie rods when performing maintenance or replacing expansion joints in the pipeline system.

    Examples of specific requirements:

    • Use of tie rods: Expansion joint limit tie rod is widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, electric power, heating, water supply and other fields.

    • Installation Requirements: When the expansion joint of the tie rod is installed, the expansion joint is not allowed to be twisted.

    • tie rod expansion joint: The four-bar axial bellows expansion joint is adopted. This design helps to control the displacement of the expansion joint, especially in the case of large axial displacement.

    • Material requirementsStainless steel or other corrosion-resistant materials may be required if used in harsh environments.

    • Test Requirements: Expansion joints are not allowed to be tested with more than 1.5 times the nominal system pressure.

    Notes:

    • Before installation, check the relevant configuration of the expansion joint, including model, specifications, and design requirements.

    • If the expansion joint is lined, it should be installed as directed by the product.

    • For expansion joints that require cold tightening, the specific guidelines provided by the manufacturer should be followed.

Please make sure to refer to relevant standards and technical documents, such as ASTM, ASME and other standards, and the installation and maintenance manual provided by the manufacturer in practical application. This can ensure the correct use and long-term reliability of the expansion joint tie rod.
